Napa Valley Vintners

Napa Valley Vintners will have more than 60 wines from 20 different wineries available for tasting on the generic California Wine Institute stand (P15) at this year’s LIWF.  Each winery will show from its current portfolio, including a current Cabernet Sauvignon shown alongside one from its library of the widely acclaimed 2001 vintage.

In a recent retrospective of the vintage Wine Advocate’s Robert Parker wrote: “As brilliant as I thought the 2001s were eight years ago, they have exceeded even my highest expectations.”

Visit the stand to try varieties from Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay – the region’s most planted – to Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Petit Syrah, and Merlot from established and future favourites including Cakebread Cellars, Grgich Hills Estate, Heitz Cellars, Hendry, Robert Mondavi Winery, Saintsbury, Silver Oak Cellars and Viader Vineyards. These producers represent the overall composition of the valley’s producers—95% of which are small family owned businesses.

The offerings reflect the length and breadth of the Napa Valley and its 16 recognized sub-appellations or American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) contained within the Napa Valley AVA. The renown of this legendary American wine region is known around the world. The region produces just 4% of California’s wine grapes, yet has a value of more than 34% of all of California’s wine industry’s economic impact.

The 30 mile long river valley is home to no less than 33 different soil series and 100 soil types, the most diverse of any wine region in the world. The climate is a dry Mediterranean one that covers just 2% of the Earth’s surface, coupled with the influence of the Pacific Ocean and winegrowers have proven to produce wines of exceptional quality with remarkable vintage to vintage consistency.

The Napa Valley Vintners is the non-profit trade association responsible for promoting and protecting the Napa Valley appellation as the premier winegrowing region. From seven founding members in 1944, today the association represents more than 425 Napa Valley wineries and collectively is a leader in the world-wide wine industry.
