Good Things Come in Small Packages
Celebrated French chef Morgan M is expanding on the success of his Barbican restaurant by tempting diners with an exciting new tasting plates menu. Available in the stylish, chic and informal Kitchen Gallery on the lower ground floor of the restaurant, this informal ‘grazing’ menu offers entry-level haute cuisine in the form of ‘mixed and matched’ tasting plates.
Morgan’s tasting plates are ideal for those looking for a light lunch, a quick gourmet stop before the theatre or a casual impromptu supper with friends. With no bookings required, guests simply show up and pick and choose their favourite dishes from seasonal menu. All reasonably priced between £3.50 and £6.50, the menu features Morgan’s most popular creations including signature dishes like ravioli of snails in Chablis, garlic froth and red wine jus alongside innovative options such as fillet of salmon with a carrot and ginger risotto, the cream of ‘mojette’ beans with a lemon confit and pesto and a game terrine with apple chutney to name a few. Tempting dessert miniatures also grace the menu with elegant choices including light vanilla rice pudding with orange tuille and a tarte “Paysanne” with crème frangipane – enjoy as the perfect end to the meal or try them with an espresso for a mid-afternoon pick me up.
With stripped wooden tables and handpicked art, the intimate Kitchen Gallery is a welcome addition to Morgan’s Barbican based gem. Sit by the beautifully exposed wine cellar, add a glass or two of the Torroxal Albarino 2010, a fantastic crisp white or Bourgueil Peu Muleau 1996, a mature cabernet franc with a hint of red berries, and set the world to rights whilst discovering the art of French cooking. The hottest table in the house has to be overlooking the open kitchen, where guests canwatch Morgan preparing each dish alongside chef Sylvain Soulard who has worked with him for 12 years.
In the upstairs dining room, Morgan’s highly praised tasting menus and a la carte dishes continue to wow, but what better way to learn about his flair and style by sampling a few of Morgan M’s firm favourites.
