Ellis Wharton Wines
Based on the South West Coast, Ellis Wharton Wines specialise in wines from small producers and focus on organic, biodynamic and natural wines. Their list offers unusual grape varieties, classic regions and iconic names at great prices. Some of Ellis Wharton natural wines are available at stunning new restaurant The Herring at the Bedruthan Steps Hotel, Newquay.
Chef Ryan Venning has created an exciting, mouth-watering menu full of fresh flavours with an Asian influence and sustainable seafood taking centre-stage. A sample of the menu is Razor Clam & Lobster, with Toasted Almonds, Yuzu & Chilli Butter for starters, followed by Red Cod Cheek & Scallop Curry. Enjoy fantastic views, for just £16 at lunch (2 courses, or £19 for 3 courses).
May is ‘Real Wine Month’ and you can fill your wine rack with a selection of their delicious low sulphur natural wines from Malbec ‘sin sulfiti’ to a delicious, minerally Prosecco.
Or go along to Restaurant & Tapas bar Untitled in Penzance which is hosting a pop-up tasting 6.30-8.30pm, 25th May. You’ll need to locate the private entrance, but you’ll find this underground tasting the perfect introduction to ‘real’ or natural wine with a selection to try, plus hosts to keep the wine flowing as they tell the story behind each wine.
Real Wine Month is celebration of minimum intervention winemaking, using organic or biodynamic grapes from sustainably managed vineyards. The Scarlet Hotel, Bedruthan Steps and Porthminster Beach Cafe are also taking part in Real Wine Month, serving a selection by the glass throughout May.
